Meet The Team

Shaye Starkey

I am pleased to introduce myself as the Principal Dental Prosthetist and Technician at Starkey Smiles Denture Care. I have been privileged to work in many aspects of the Dental industry for the past 14 years. While studying a Bachelor of Design majoring in Architecture at Queensland University of Technology, I began a casual position as a Dental Nurse in a large multi-surgery clinic north of Brisbane. It is here that I discovered my true passion for Dental Technology & Prosthetics, and after 4 years of Architecture I decided to broaden my knowledge and kept studying. Upon completion of a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Technology I was accepted into the Masters Degree program and graduated as a Dental Prosthetist in 2015.  I have spent the past 5 years at various clinics on the Gold Coast, while also teaching Dental Technology at Griffith University.

Khoa Doan

I was first exposed to the oral health industry in early 2016 where I was in my final year of high school and in the progress of deciding my career. However, after many hours of scrolling through the different university and hundreds of different degrees and career paths offered I stumbled across the Bachelor of Dental Technology. After commencing my studies in 2017 and having the privilege of studying under many skilled tutors -including Dr Starkey- intrigued to discover that I would be able to further my studies by undertaking a dual bachelors degree. Thus, at end of my first year I transferred my degree to study a dual Bachelor of Dental Technology and Bachelor of Dental Prosthetics so that I can closely work with patients to achieve a smile they are proud of. A side from having the privilege to work with Shaye since 2020, I have also had the privilege of working in a highly established orthodontic specialist over the past couple of years.

Charlize Fleay

After graduating year 12 in 2016, I chose to study in the oral health field, selecting a field that combined creativity and patient care. I studied a dual Bachelor of Dental technology and Bachelor of Dental Prosthetist, graduating in 2020. While studying I worked part-time for a specialist orthodontics clinic and have continued to work both there and at Starkey Smiles in recent years. I am honoured to work under Shaye Starkey, a previous tutor at Griffith University, who helped me to become the dental technician I am today.
